Sputnik, sixty years ago

Posted by admin On Gennaio - 22 - 2018

On 4th October 1957, exactly sixty years ago, when the URSS launched its first satellite called Sputnik 1, the spatial era began. This satellite was a really small flying object with a sphere that measured 60 centimetres.

The satellite remained in the space until it finished its energy on 4th January 1958.

That launch was made during the Cold War and it scared a lot the United States because they realized how much powerful the URSS was.

This fear caused by the URSS to the United States accelerated the run to the space that finished with the conquer of the Moon by the United States on 20th July 1969 thanks to Mercury, Gemini and Apollo project.
