In May there will be the possibility for the second year to take part to an English test: the PET.
As all the English tests, it is composed on an oral test, a listening, a writing and a reading.
The first part is the oral test. First of all you have to do a quick presentation of yourself, a description of a picture and a dialogue with a schoolmate. The examiner will tell you what to speak about. The second part is a listening test. It lasts 36 minutes and there are 25 multiple choice questions. The last part is the reading, where you have to answer to some questions after having read a text, and the writing, where it is required to write a story or a letter, using a specific topic.
The results are usually uploaded in June, but the certificate is given from our school in September: the score goes from 120 to 170, with a minimum score of 140 to pass the exam.
Nowadays the PET is useful to have university credits, to ascertain your English level and it can help you to understand how First certificate is and how to get ready for it.
The English teacher will make you ready for the test during the lessons, especially during the mother tongue period. The cost is usually around 100 euros.
I did it last year and I think it is a good experience for a student because you can understand your limits, get to know how to ménage stress and have a goal to improve your English.
