It is an ever growing phenomenon the choice made by Italian school directors of teaching some subjects in English.
This project is called CLIL (Content and language integrated learning)
It would become a revolutionary way to learn English. Lessons in CLIL-style includes an active interaction students/teacher learning another subject (History, Math, Science…).
Pupils are spurred to speak English as a normal activity feeling part of the lesson. Furthermore, it does not look like an English lesson at all: it is like discussing of different topics in another language.
According to whom tried this new teaching method, it works ten times better than the traditional one.
The aim of CLIL project is to improve the Italian level of knowledge of English with less effort: listening to an english-speaking person will seem natural and normal to students after some time, and their speaking skills will increase exponentially. And I know it because I am one of those students, I’ve been having six hours of CLIL lessons a week for three years, and now I am able to see the differences between my english-speaking skills and my friends’ ones, and it is huge.
So, I heartily suggest everyone to attend CLIL lessons at least for two hours a week, because they are extremely useful for your brain, your future, and your general knowledge as well.
