The last few months are very intense for the Liceo Coreutico because they are full of rehearsals in preparation of the two shows dated May 17th and May 28th. First of all, in order to create a show that includes all the studied dance styles, it is necessary to agree on a very precise schedule. With the artistic director Carla Fracci, the dance technique teachers have chosen to divide the show in two parts, respectively: Suite by Don Quixote of classic dance and character dance and Vivaldi’s Overture for contemporary dance choreographies.
Don Quixote is one of the most famous ballet and character dance, it is studied and realized in the major theatres by the most prestigious companies. The plot is based on the Spanish novel written by Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote of La Mancha, and it tells the story of a rich man, Gamache, who tries in vain to marry the beautiful Kitri in love with Basilio. Kitri and Basilio decide to escape and organize a party in a cave, where, however, Kitri’s father manages to find them. Basilio pretends to be on his deathbed and he wants to marry Kitri as his last wish. Her father, moved by the boy’s condition, decides to agree, but once the two are married, Basilio gets up again, proud of his deception, and everyone celebrates dancing.
Vivaldi’s Overture was conceived and created by Mrs. Ottolenghi on Vivaldi symphonies, it begins with the choreography “Primavera d’autunno” which serves as an introduction to the four seasons. Its peculiarity is to have colours games because of the costumes; it expresses joy and harmonic movements developed as to create a varied and serene environment. “Primavera”, performed by 2ALC wants to express lightness, delicacy, rebirth through the colours of the wide skirts they wear, symbol of spring. “Estate” performed by 5LC at the conclusion of the fifth school years is rich of energy, descents and climbs, falls and recoveries, jumps, in perfect synchrony.
“Autunno” is interpreted by 3ALC and 4ALC and it is made of jumps, continuous movements and gestures, motions suspended just like the falling leaves, floating. Finally “Inverno” dance by the entire Liceo Coreutico which concludes the picture as a sort of summary of the previous seasons. This piece has the peculiarity of containing moments where movements and gestures have been invented by the students; it is a set of sensations and emotions that escape early.
Preparing a show so vast and important is not simple, it requires a lot of constant study, extra hours to find perfection, months of commitment and concentration, as well as team spirit! We hope to show you all this, we invite you to our shows on May 17 at the Casino of San Pellegrino Terme and on May 28 at the Creberg Theatre.
