Covid? A loss of million jobs

Posted by admin On Marzo - 13 - 2021

The severe decline in air traffic caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, followed by a slow recovery, will result in a loss of up to 46 million jobs normally supported by aviation worldwide: this is what emerges from new data of the field recently published from the Air Transport Action Group (Atag), an organization of experts of the field based in Geneva.

Under normal circumstances, aviation and tourism linked to it support 87.7 million jobs worldwide. Over 11 million seats are used by the sector itself: airlines, airports, civil aerospace manufacturers and air traffic management.

The near-total closure of the system for several months, and the hiccup reopening mean for the organization that air travel will not return to pre-Covid levels until 2024.

“With the expectation of seeing less than half of the passenger traffic this year compared to what we did in 2019, says the Executive Director of the Air Transport Action Group, We know that many jobs in air transport and the wider aviation industry are at risk. Some companies are already making tough decisions, with many colleagues affected by the recession”.
