The acronym MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts. Basically, it’s the combination of various fighting styles like Sambo, Boxe, Jiu-Jitsu, Greco-Roman Wrestling etc…
The most important MMA competition is the American Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) founded in 1993. The goal of this society is to find the best fighter in the world, no matter the fight techniques of the competitors.
At the beginning, it was very criticized due to the almost lack of rules: a fighter on the fight stage could do whatever he wanted to do but this led to very cruel battles and severe injuries or deaths.
MMA gained the notorious reputation of the most brutal fighting sport ever, leading many TVs or media refusing to talk about it. Many nations, for example France, banished this activity. So, with the goal of surviving, it was decided to add strict rules to this competition. Here’s a short list of the rules:
no groin attacks; no knees to the head on a grounded opponent; no strikes to the back of the head or the spine; no head butts; no biting; no fingers in an opponent orifices.
Now, with the implementation of a true regulation, fightings became significantly less violent and MMA started gaining a lot of watchers and fans. Today, it’s popularity threats even Boxe.
